Rug Problem, Yes Luv-A-Rug fixes that and more

I  just got off the phone with a lady who called to inquire about getting a rug picked up and repairing some corner damage. Not only did I mention that we can pick her rug up as early as tomorrow (Saturday we offer no-charge pick up and delivery in most areas of Victoria and surrounding areas) but also that we could repair the damage. She than mentioned that her rug was too big you her new home and that she also has one in her bedroom folded in half to fit the room.

I mentioned that depending on the type of rug she has we can trim them down to a usable size for her. She was thrilled that this could be done because it never occurred to her to have them trimmed down.

Here is my video on making your rug perfect by trimming it to the right size and getting it re-edged.

Now this is best to do on machine woven rugs, more so than hand-knotted rugs. Bring your rug in to Luv-A-Rug at 445 Beta St Victoria BC and we can let you know if your rug can be trimmed down  to fit your room. We can also trim wall to wall carpet ends into any shape you need to fit around a fireplace, boat, or vents.

Luv-A-Rug does more than just clean area rugs. Thanks for reading RugloverMary

HELP! The rug I love is not the right size.

It is not always easy to find the perfect rug, whether it is the right colour or right shape and size. There are ways to find the perfect rug, or you can make a rug into the perfect rug. when looking for good area rugs don’t forget about going to reputable auction houses.

In Victoria BC we have two very good auction houses where you can get a great deal on area rugs, Lund’s Auction and Kilshaw’s Auctioneer. Luv-A-Rug gets a lot of rugs brought in for cleaning and repairs that were bought at either Auction House. We had one such rug find brought to us by a lady who frequence the auctions a couple of weeks ago, but it wasn’t quite perfect.

Her rug is a 7×11 Turkish rug and it is not in perfect condition, but she got it for a steal of a price. The rug is a bit too big for the space where she wants to use, so Luv-A-Rug is going clean her rug and trim it down to the size that fits. Here is my video showing what we are going to do to her Turkish rug.

It is important that you know that you can have perfect rug for your home, it just may need some tweaking. Luv-A-Rug as made runners out of little 2×3 scatter mats a client bought at Capital Iron here in Victoria. We are usually only limited by the rug construction and your budget.

Now I will note that Luv-A-Rug will not do this to any old rug. We respect and care about rugs, so if you brought us a valuable rug we would refuse to cut it up, but we can always do an authentic hand repair to restore your antique rugs to a usable and lovable state.

Have you ever found the perfect rug that wasn’t quite the right size or shape? Did you buy it and get it tweaked? I would love to see how you made not so perfect rugs work in your home. Leave me a comment on what you did to make it work or send me pictures to mary.luvarug@shaw.ca with the subject line “How I made my rug perfect”

Thanks for reading, RugloverMary- I look forward to your rugs.

>Hand Repair on a Persian Carpet

It is heartbreaking when you see your precious area rug slowly get eaten away by the vacuum cleaner and every day use. The first thing to go is usually the fringes and then the corners start to unravel. When you love your rug you want to keep using it for many more years.

When we, Luv-A-Rug, see rugs that can benefit from repairs we let you know what options are available for your rug. For hand-knotted rugs we like to do an authentic hand repair on them. Hand repairs look original, when done right, and are a great investment to preserve your beloved rugs.

On May 18th a lady from Nanaimo BC brought in her 2.4×3.3 foot Persian area carpet for cleaning and repair. All four corners of her little Persian were fraying to a point where soon she would start to lose some of the pattern.

After we cleaned her rug with wool safe shampoo and clean water our Armenian hand repair expert re-weaved the corners seamlessly. If you didn’t know that the corners were fraying you would have hard time seeing the repairs. The only real way to tell is the fringes on the corners are brighter than the rest.

When I take before and after pictures it is hard to get the same lighting even with photo tweaking that is why the rug looks yellower in the after pictures.

Here is too many happy repaired rugs, RugloverMary

Rhythm lives here

Consistency is the key to a successful day and business. At Luv-A-Rug we aim to give every client the same service, but making it personal to their needs. I know that reads funny, I have tried to re-word it and I just made less sense.
The better version of that sentence is, we ask the same questions to every client, but not in a robotic manner. I am not having a good brain day, sorry.
To be the best at my job I try to remember to ask if the client needs pad, protective finish for their rugs, mention any repairs that can be done, and tell them a little bit about their rug, if they don’t know anything about it. I do not do it in that order, obviously, but you get what I mean. These few questions shows the client I care about their rug, my job and it helps me make a little more money. Never a bad thing when you love shoes and accessories.
Every team member of Luv-A-Rug asks these questions  and that establishes rhythm. Every company should have a rhythm and this is ours. Because it Friday and I am having an out-of-sorts day I am including a random picture.

Bad Weather equals Good Business

The weather has turned nasty today, strong winds and rain mixed with hail. Not a typical Victoria, BC day. Everyone is stuck on the island as the B.C. Ferries are not sailing. This weather does make our shop busy because of flooding and leaking. Some area rugs come in so sad-looking you would think that there was no use in trying, but there is always a use for trying.
I had a client come in to pick up his rugs and he got to call me a liar, in a nice way. One of his rugs came in with green stains on it, since he had no idea what caused the stains we couldn’t say for sure if they would come out. The stains were completely gone. He was very happy and said that the rug was too clean for use in their summer cottage. I apologized for our cleaning results, joking of course. I like clients with a good sense of humour.
I returned a call to a lovely charming woman today. She wasn’t having a good day and my phone call cheered her up. She had left a message asking if we repair rugs, her rug has a five-inch tear in it. She loves her rug very much and was very thrilled to hear that Luv-A-Rug does rug repairs.
It if wasn’t for bad weather and pets the rug cleaning business would be much slower. I would say at least two-thirds of the area rugs we clean are because of pets or flooding. I heard a story that one area rug cleaner asked his client for her cat’s birthday. She was a little perplexed as to why he would want to know. He replied it was so he could send him a ‘thank you’ present for bring him so much business. So true!
